Diabetes Alert Puppy Programme

If you would like to enter into our puppy programme there are a few things you will be required to do. We ask that you raise the puppy in accordance with our principle of care and training for the first year before formal service dog training will take place. The key purpose during this first year is to socialize and train puppies to prepare them for their lives as service dogs.

Those on our puppy programme are responsible for taking our puppies out in public in their service dog jacket to expose them to unfamiliar environments such as shopping centres, cinemas, parks, playgrounds, buses, trains, and also around people of different ages, and other animals, etc. It is critical that the puppies are exposed to the sights, sounds and smells they will encounter as service dogs. You are also responsible for maintaining the puppies’ health care by scheduling and transporting the puppy to your local vet for routine veterinary appointments.

Thе breeds wе choose tо work wіth аrе uѕuаllу Labradors, Retrievers, Goldendoodles, Labradoodles and Miniature Poodles.

Once you have filled out the relevant enquiry form, we have spoken with you over the phone and we believe we are able to help you, we will then require you to email us confirmation of a diagnosis from your G.P. or Hospital we will then be in a position to offer you a service puppy. You will receive your service puppy aged 10+ weeks. Your service puppy will have had all vaccinations including the kennel cough vaccine and some basic obedience training.

When the puppy reaches 3 months of age you and your puppy will need to attend an obedience and socialsation class.
This class is usually one hour per week for 4-6 weeks. These classes will be in your own home town area, with a trainer approved by us.

When the puppy reaches 6 months of age they will need to attend further obedience training classes.
This will usually be with the same local trainer in your own home area who was previously used.

When The Puppy Reaches 12 To 14 Months Formal Training Will Take Place.

When the service puppy reaches 12-14 months old you will be required to return the puppy to us for 8 weeks training and certification.
